Arfakhashad Munaim

As a practicing urban designer and planner, Arfakhashad (A.K.) Munaim explores the way communities engage, negotiate, and embrace the extant planning and policy regimes of their respective cities. As a Senior Planner at Schmitz & Associates, Inc., he conducts Due Diligence and Feasability Analysis reports for large-scale residential projects, assists in map-making with GIS, and contributes his expertise in design and architectural development for multi-scale projects.
Education
Arfakhashad earned his BA from UC Irvine and MA from UCLA in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on land use planning and urban design. He has also studied Architecture at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.
Contributions
Arfakhashad has extensive experience in creating master plan communities worldwide, teaching design practice as a guest lecturer at UCLA and Niigata University, and is currently involved in research projects in Cairo, Egypt and Fukushima, Japan. He is also a contributing author in BISHAMON II for his research in Japan and Routledge Companion for Global Heritage Conservation, which explores diaspora communities under cultural and social-political constructs in Los Angeles.
